Why a routine built from videos often makes things worse

The most common story we hear: "my skin used to be fine, then I started taking care of it and it got worse". It is almost never one particular product. It is how the routine is put together as a whole.

Why advice from a video does not work on you

A video shows the result but not the starting point: skin age, climate, hormones, medication, and the three months before filming. A product that rescued someone else lands on a different foundation on your face.

  • A blogger with oily skin in Seoul and you with dry skin through a Tbilisi winter are solving different problems.
  • The before-and-after makes the cut; the flaking in week two does not.
  • Some videos are advertising, and the product was chosen to fit a campaign budget, not a face.

The loop people end up in

It looks the same for almost everyone who assembled a routine from reviews. Each step sounds sensible on its own — the trouble is that they follow one another.

The loop skin cannot leave on its own
Step 1 Skin looks shiny — I buy a stronger cleanser and an acid "to clear the pores"
Step 2 Tightness and redness appear — the skin is losing its protective layer
Step 3 Skin answers with inflammation and more oil — it reads as "breaking out again"
Step 4 I buy more actives — and the loop restarts, on skin that is more tired than before

There is one way out and it is boring: remove half the products and add nothing for two or three weeks.

The four mistakes we see most often

  • Two actives in one evening. An acid and retinol together give double the irritation, not double the result.
  • Exfoliating "every other day to speed things up". Skin renews over weeks; a brush and an acid cannot hurry it.
  • A routine with no moisturiser. Toner and serum do not hold water on their own — without a cream it evaporates within the hour.
  • A new product every week. When something goes wrong, you no longer know which one did it.

What to do instead

A basic routine is four products, not fourteen: gentle cleansing, hydration, moisturiser, and SPF in the morning. Everything else joins one at a time, with a pause, so it stays clear who is to blame.

  • Introduce one new product at a time and keep it for at least two weeks.
  • Start an active twice a week, not every day.
  • Burning, itching or flaking is not "getting used to it" — it is a signal to stop.

We help choose a routine for free and do not sell "everything at once": often the answer is to drop two products you already own and buy nothing.

Skin dislikes sudden moves and likes consistency. What usually rescues it is not a new bottle but a month of calm, boring care.
